Before things start to get busy, I thought it prudent to get a calendar program in place so that we don’t double book ourselves and so that others can see what is on the schedule. We’ve had Los Lunas come on board now, with two chainmail classes scheduled and a pennywhistle class tentatively scheduled. I also want to offer them an inkle loom class or two. As things gear up for the summer, I need to know who is doing what and when and where.

We might have found an excellent archery location – it’s in Los Lunas, which is a bit of a drive for Albuquerque folks, but I think the location is practical and affords appropriate levels of safety. And that’s where Melissa and James live, and archery will be one of their main events. More to follow on that.

I have been getting some “hits” on my blog from the East Mountains area – so I anticipate them coming on board as well. Now if I can only find a decent place in Rio Rancho to meet – been having alot of resistance, not because of what we do, but because the insurance policies for the facilities here do not cover groups like Medieval Living having meetings there. I’ve looked at places to rent on a full time basis . . . but we are not there yet financially . . . unless I win the lottery or we find a backer who shares our vision, renting a building will be further down the road. (This would be a good opportunity for someone with a philanthropic heart to come forward! No, seriously!)

I don’t think that we are some crazy nuts who have a pie-in-the-sky dream of building a Medieval living-history village. Or if we are, I’d like to share with you that there are many many others who have similar goals and aspirations. One such group is Guedelon – a Medieval castle being constructed in Burgundy, France, using tools and techinques common to the Medieval era.
Another group is a little closer – Medieval World, USA, is a Colorado not for profit corporation with similar goals . . . to quote from their site “Medieval World, USA wants to build not only a castle, but an entire medieval village.”
So what does it take? What do we have to do to make this dream a reality? I would truly like to hear from anyone, whether in New Mexico or anywhere else, who would like to share in making this dream come true! It looks like it’s taken the group in Colorado since 2006 to get to the point where they finally have a piece of land for a permanent facility. What would it take to make that happen here during 2010? Either leave a comment here or email me at scott@medieval-living.com .

My apologies to all who have been reading my blog on a regular basis. I was busy last weekend with a local SCA event – al-Barrn Champions! A wonderful event – not too demanding but with enough activity to make it worth while. I spent most of my time on the archery field. I haven’t done much archery lately, so I felt it prudent to practice so as to improve my skills.
Since the weekend, I have found my self “whelmed” by the responsibilities of public education. Notice, I didn’t say “overwhelmed” . . . just “whelmed”. Grades are due, meetings after school, teacher night at the local museums, educators’ banquet with the Army National Guard. All good stuff, but enough to keep me from doing much blogging. Hope that will change a little this weekend.
My goal for this weekend is to make the “hub” of Medieval spoked wheel. I’ve had several people tell me that they would be interested in having a source of such wheels . . . so there’s some motivation to get busy on the lathe.

Well – the old adage about backing up your files . . . mine are backed up, but I just can’t seem to resurrect them.

In the meantime, my comment screen is working again – that’s what started this whole mess. I had a wonderful visitor send me a nice email to let me know that my comments were working – so after a day of messing around, they are now fixed! But alas, my first dozen or so blogs are gone – maybe i can find them in the mystical recesses of my freakin computer and host server!!!

At any rate, I’m glad to have most things back to the way they are supposed to be. Still have to tweek a few things in the blog appearance, but I will get there soon enough.

Try it again – stop by for a visit and say ‘hello’ !!
